differentstrokes: (Yes no I don't think so)

[1st Mission-Action/Voice]

[It was mid-afternoon in Luceti and about an hour or so had passed since Jake came to and found himself not where he was supposed to be. After the initial shock, he managed to work out the journal and heard about some guide that led him to re-locate his things. Now he was taking stroll through the village. None of the technicalities of this place made sense to him, but he got the idea that he was stuck playing prisoner. That was what it all concluded to really. Nothing new to him, though this beats China's facilities any day. Was he happy? Not in the least. He was in the middle of something pretty damn important, like stopping an epidemic. Yea, he read that time would stop, but just leaving the job undone, when they were so close was pretty frustrating. Besides, he was still skeptical about a lot of things about this place.

He came to a halt in front of House 31, and gave it a look over. He walked around and locates a window. It looked like no one was staying in this house and it was surrounded by other homes that didn't have inhabitants in them either. Perfect. This particular window was facing the river and CB4. Anyone who happened by or just looked in the direction of the river would probably notice an explosion that was set off by a grenade. On closer inspection, a window had been blown off and took a chunk of the wall with it.

A few minutes after that, Jake goes on the journal.]

So how much of a beating can this place take before the magic repairman stops coming by to fix everything?

[People can probably hear the the river, as he had moved himself away from House 31.]

Also, this is to anyone who got dumped here from Earth, if the words "Neo-Umbrella", "B.S.A.A." or "C-virus" sound familiar to you, talk to me. If you don't know know what I'm talking about, consider yourself lucky, I guess.

[...Should he mention Sherry? No, she'd likely answer this if she was really here. Anyone from home could be here afterall]

Just wanted to get an idea of how many people are on the same page as me.

[ ...hearing anyone mention the bsaa is like a fine breath of refreshing air. claire's startled gasp is audible, as she begins broadcasting far earlier than she intends. still not used to these books! and yet, she's been monitoring them closely for just this reason. desperate for some sign of home.

but something else -- and perhaps something far worse -- manages to catch her attention more firmly: ]
W-wait. Neo-Umbrella?

[ well, shit. nothing about that sounds even remotely good. and who's this guy, so cavalierly naming such a terrifying concept. claire hopes it's only a concept. ]

[ ...Part of that sounds familiar. One of the other new feathers mentioned it, didn't they? ]

Claire asked about the "B.S.A.A." thing! That's a government Earth thing, right?

An' the other thing depends on if the building has automatic repairs at all. Not all places do, you know.

[ after having solemnly sworn to topple umbrella -- alongside chris, of course -- this is a rather heart-wrenching revelation. certainly, she understands that many of umbrella's scientists went to ground with whatever data they could grab. but she genuinely thought the world had move on to other big bad companies. companies which are mercifully less twisted than umbrella.

claire sighs. ]
Same motto as the old Umbrella, then. [ it's hard for her not to sound a little...perturbed. a lot disappointed. ]

[ Because the post came during a time when Ikki was unoccupied and she likes talking to people, of course! ]

Yep! She's a new feather, too, like you. I don't know her last name, though. She didn't mention it. [ Shrug. For a kid without a last name, last names are generally...unimportant? ]

[ an oddly phrased question. after all -- in her line of work -- when isn't she hearing about umbrella? but perhaps that isn't the cleverest fact to divulge so early on in a first conversation. ]

I was...in contact with one of their ex-researched as recently as a few days ago. Shortly before showing up here, to be honest. [ it's a coincidence she doesn't like. not one bit. but downing was taken into custody, so he couldn't have anything to do with this.

could he? ]

[He knows and yet he cannot say a thing.

...New Feather cycles are so stressful.
]

There are some buildings made by the people of Luceti which do not repair themselves. If it is not too forward of me, I ask that one is careful in his choice of buildings to beat.

[ rather than play ball and offer up a legitimate date, claire opts to plumb the depths of this stranger's knowledge. she says a single word: ] Harvardville.

[ the incident had only just happened, but she's already well-versed (thanks to others and to the guide) on how this place can bend time. if this man was talking about some refurbished version of umbrella, it didn't sound as though their timelines matched.

of course, she's banking upon the harvardville incident having had a significant presence in the media. ]

[Now that he's steadier, he can switch to voice - even thought he speaks quietly.]

Ah...Yes, I suppose if no owner is present, one may find no harm in choosing empty homes.

...

...But might I ask why you have chosen to beat houses?

[ eight years. claire sucks in a long breath; it hisses past her teeth. eight years, neo-umbrella, and -- if this person is to be believed -- some new strain. c-virus. oh, she can feel a headache coming on.

but his casual nicknaming brings her up short. whatever else she plans to say, she abandons it in favour of a quick quip: ]
Redfield, actually. You missed a syllable.

[ a fortuitous coincidence, really. a reddish-haired redfield. ]

It can repair itself rather easily from explosions. A day at most. ...I believe. I do not recall having witnessed any explosions beyond such a size here.

Well, one of my best friends kicked me through our apartment wall awhile back and that only took a couple of hours. Another friend tried to tear apart her walls to remake it into a dojo.

[ jake. a mercenary. her stomach flips in a way that reveals to her that she's not necessarily on board with the concept of mercenaries. she might even have made an argument if the guy hadn't then mentioned chris.

hadn't then mentioned sherry. jeez. as much as she wants to ask about her brother, there's something she wants to clear up: ]
You saw Sherry? Sherry Birkin?

[ because in 2005, sherry is still a closely guarded government secret. in 2005, claire is the only civilian simmons allows to visit sherry. and eight years later she's... ] Where? Which outbreak?

Ironic. [ after all, sherry has her own immunity to contend with. ] On who's behalf?

[ in her own present, there isn't yet any discussion of sherry becoming an agent with anyone. had there been, claire would have had some choice words to say on the matter. ]
